Fragile Heart

This installation explores notions of strength and fragility, pain and healing, and the transitory nature of life through the symbol of the heart and the material of red rose petals.  There are two representations of the heart:  the first, the central heart which alludes to the anatomical organ essential to sustain life.  The second heart is found by tracing the outer shape created by the vein endings.  This heart is that of the softened, rounded Valentine abstracted from the organ itself; personifying love and passion, and alluding to the heart as the center of emotions.
